Our Mellow Miraflores Stopover: Lima’s Layover Haven

Hotel Embajadores

With a luxurious one or two-day stopover in Lima, you have the perfect opportunity to turn a layover into a memorable mini-vacation, and there’s no better home base than Miraflores. This elegant, safe, and easily accessible district isn't just a place to kill time; it’s the perfect spot to genuinely mellow out before your next flight. Hotel Embajadores - page

For our stay, we checked into the Hotel Embajadores. This landmark hotel, likely built in the mid-to-late 70s or 80s, has an air of seasoned charm. While it offers a great range of modern amenities and excellent service, it still retains that lovely touch of the era it was first built and operated in—a welcome change from sterile, modern hotels.

The Hotel Embajadores was surprisingly well-equipped for a working "vacation." I discovered that the Wi-Fi connection was especially strong by the pool and in the gym, which I happily commandeered as my temporary office. A few hours of catching up on emails with a view of the pool was the ideal way to ease into the stopover before exploring the rest of Miraflores.

The Unbeatable Airport Express Connection

The first hurdle in any stopover is transportation, and Miraflores nails it. Getting here is ridiculously easy thanks to the dedicated Airport Express Lima bus service. Just as you heard, these comfortable, modern coaches run roughly every hour (and sometimes even every 30 minutes during peak day hours) directly between the airport and Miraflores. 3 Stops

Food, Cats, and Culture at Plaza Kennedy

Once you drop your bags at your hotel, all roads lead to Plaza Kennedy (also known as Central Park). This is the pulsing heart of the district, famous for two things: incredible food and an abundance of friendly cats who have adopted the park as their home.

Whether you're craving world-class Peruvian cuisine—Miraflores is home to some of the world’s best restaurants—or just a simple, delicious local bite, Plaza Kennedy has you covered. The surrounding streets are crammed with options, from quick, affordable butifarra (Peruvian ham sandwiches) and street vendors selling hot churros, to upscale seafood spots and lively cafes. We grabbed a quick lunch and spent a glorious hour just people-watching and saying hello to the famous feline residents.

Mellowing Out on the Malecón

After refueling, the best way to unwind is by taking a stroll along the Malecón, the gorgeous cliffside promenade overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The views here are spectacular, especially around sunset. You can walk through Parque del Amor (Love Park) with its famous El Beso sculpture, watch the paragliders launch from the cliffs, or just find a quiet bench to breathe in the ocean air.

The whole area feels safe, clean, and surprisingly tranquil, offering a complete mental break from the rush of air travel. It’s the antithesis of a crowded airport terminal.

The Perfect Layover Destination

Miraflores is truly Lima's ultimate layover haven. It offers the safety, convenience, and urban beauty needed to recharge, all within an hour’s bus ride of the airport. When it’s time to head back, you simply hop on the hourly Airport Express bus again, refreshed, well-fed, and ready for your next adventure. It’s the best decision you can make for a long stopover in Lima.
